SASSA Grant Amounts 2026
Below is the complete list of SASSA social grant amounts for 2026. Amounts are reviewed annually and may increase with the national budget.
Two things to notice straight away. The Older Person Grant pays more once you reach 75 (R2,400 to R2,420) — that extra bump covers the higher costs that come with age. And several grants share the same figure (R2,400) because they are all set at the level pensioners need to live on. The SRD R370 is a different beast entirely: it is a temporary relief grant, not a full social grant, which is why the number is so much smaller.
Watch out for the extra 'top-up' payments
In some months — usually around December or during the festive season — SASSA pays an extra amount on top of the regular grant. This is not part of your monthly figure and it changes from year to year. The table below is your monthly baseline; check our payment dates page for any announced top-ups before getting excited about your balance.
Your amount can be reduced by income
Most of these amounts assume you pass the means test in full. If you have some income, the grant you actually receive can be reduced by part of that income. The table shows the maximum you can get, not a guarantee you will get it all. If you are not sure how much YOU qualify for, our grant calculator gives you the maths without having to guess.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the SRD R370 so much less than other grants?
The SRD grant is temporary relief for people who have no income and do not qualify for a full social grant. The R370 reflects that — it is meant to help, not replace a proper grant. If your circumstances change, you may qualify for a bigger grant like the Disability Grant or Child Support Grant instead.
Do grant amounts change every year?
SASSA reviews amounts during the national budget announcement, usually in the first few months of the year. Increases are common but not guaranteed, and each grant moves separately — so stay alert rather than assuming your grant changed.
Will my bank charge me fees on these amounts?
Any money you receive from SASSA is yours with no SASSA fee. Depending on your payment method, a retailer or bank may apply their own charges for withdrawal. The SASSA card is designed to keep withdrawal costs as low as possible.
Can my grant amount be less than the table shows?
Yes. If you earn a little income, SASSA can pay a reduced amount based on your means test result. The table shows the maximum full amount — your actual figure can be lower if income is detected.
