Frequently Asked Questions
Can I submit the form online or must I visit an office?
The SRD R370 grant can be applied for online at srd.sassa.gov.za, but all other social grants require you to submit the physical Form 001 in person at a SASSA office. You must bring your original documents and be fingerprinted.
How long does it take for SASSA to process the form?
SASSA has up to 90 days to process your application. In practice, straightforward applications are often processed within 30 to 60 days. Your grant is backdated to the date you applied, so keep your application receipt safe.
Can someone else submit the form on my behalf?
No. You must apply in person because SASSA needs your fingerprints and photograph. The only exception is if you have a medical condition that prevents you from travelling — in that case, a SASSA official can visit you at home.
What if I make a mistake on the form?
Do not use correction fluid or cross out errors. If you make a mistake, ask the SASSA officer for a new form. They will assist you in completing it correctly. Errors can cause delays or rejection of your application.
Do I need to submit a separate form for each grant?
One Form 001 covers all social grants. You indicate which grant you are applying for on the form. If you are applying for more than one grant (for example, Child Support for multiple children), you list all beneficiaries on the same form.
